LEXINGTON’S RACE AGAINST HUNGER
2012 Post-Event Summary
Contact: Ray Renner, 359-7770 ext. 20
The Twelfth Annual Lexington’s Race Against Hunger took place on Saturday, February 25, 2012. There were a record 1313 people registered this year. The 10k run had 496, the Reverend Bill Green 5k fitness walk/run had 719, and the one-mile fun run had 98. In the 10k competition, Justin Bishop from West Columbia, SC led the way in 34:47. Amy McDonaugh from Irmo, SC led the women in 39:55.
The atmosphere was exciting and the weather sunny with a slight chill and wind at the race start. We raised the awareness levels of hunger both locally and worldwide, as we estimate this year’s donations to be near or over $33,000 that will go to our charities: Lexington’s Interfaith Community Services (LICS), Souper Bowl of Caring, World Vision, Oliver Gospel Missions, and Area Churches Together Serving (ACTS). Exact donation figures will be available in about one week. This will bring our twelve year total donations to over $270,000.
Thanks to the 1313 participants, approximately 90 law enforcement officers, over 70 volunteers, and all our wonderful sponsors, especially Blue Cross Blue Shield who accounts for approximately a third of the generated income as they honor the memory of Curt Owens Jr.
